2022: A Year to Celebrate

As we approach the end of another year, we wanted to take time to reflect on all we’ve been able to accomplish because of the dedicated community that supports our work.

We knew that 2022 deserved special recognition as it meant we had reached the ripe old age of ninety. Having opened our second location in 2021, we also anticipated a year of capacity building, iterating through our challenges, and most importantly having fun.

We more than delivered on each goal and we invite you take a journey with us to reflect on the year that was.

To mark our ninetieth anniversary, the York Day Nursery Birthday Party was held on Friday June 7th. We invited past and present Board Members, families, and teachers to our Philadelphia Street Center for a good old fashioned block party. Despite the ninety degree heat, we welcomed over 100 partygoers to enjoy face painting, a petting zoo, ice cream, big bubbles, and a fire truck. Thanks to the sponsorship of M&T Bank, this party gave old and new friends the chance to enjoy a summer evening on us.

Just a few months later we welcomed guests to another event for our anniversary. This time we were lucky enough to host at Millbourne Gardens, the beautiful estate of Mrs. Jody Appell and the late Mr. Louis Appell. The elegant summer cocktail party allowed us to celebrate the history of our organization and to recognize what the past ninety years have meant to our community.

To cap off the evening we unveiled our much-anticipated rebrand, which was the result of more than a year of work by our Board and Executive Team. Sharing this exciting news with our long-time donors, teachers, and families at this intimate event was a special moment that we are very proud of.

November 1st marked one year of operations at York Day at York Tech. Now serving seventy children with a staff of thirty, the center is thriving. We know none of its success was possible without the hard work of our center administrators and teachers.

Opening a new childcare center while still navigating the effects of a pandemic is no easy task but working with these high-quality professionals made the work quick and easy.

By opening this location we are making a small but important impact on the availability of affordable high-quality childcare in York.

Also in November, we were delighted to bring back our Annual Spaghetti Dinner. This annual event is a time-honored tradition that brings together families and teachers across York Day classrooms to enjoy a homestyle meal of spaghetti and meatballs. After taking a hiatus for the past two years of the pandemic, we were happy to welcome over 150 guests for fun, fellowship, and full-bellies!

Finally, our greatest achievement comes from the work that happens every day, across ten different classrooms. The high-quality educational experience that we provide is what makes York Day the special place it is. Our teachers are engaged, our students are inspired, and our families are supported.

None of this is possible without you. As the year comes to a close and you take time to reflect on the joys of the past year, we hope you consider making a donation to York Day, to ensure that our work continues not only next year, but for the next ninety years.
