Introducing York Day Early Learning

Did you know that over the past ninety years, our organization has had four different names? In 1932 we were simply known as the VNA School because it was operated by the Visiting Nurse Association. In 1946 we became the York Nursery School and by the 1980’s we were York Day Nursery and Kindergarten. When we no longer offered Kindergarten, we became York Day Nursery, a name many have grown accustomed to over the last thirty years.

Coming out of the Covid-19 pandemic, and after our expansion to a second location, we felt it was time for another change. Over the past twelve months we have worked closely with staff, Board Members, and long-time donors to reimagine our brand identity to help tell a better story about who we are and what we do.

“We are really excited to share our new name, York Day Early Learning, as we feel it better communicates the active role that we play in educating our youngest community-members.” said York Day President and CEO, Brian Grimm. “Our teachers are professionally trained educators who are delivering a critical service. This name better reflects their work.”

The logo that accompanies our new name echoes the movement you will see in all our classrooms. Our educational program is active, participatory, and full of experimentation. Our use of primary colors reflects our belief that high-quality early learning is the foundation on which all other accomplishments are built.

Future Focused

This new name not only reflects our current work more accurately, but it also better positions us for the flexibility and adaptation that will be required to thrive over the next ninety years.

“The future of high-quality early learning is not certain,” explains York Day Vice President of Advancement and Communications, Laura O’Grady. “As we continue to advocate for more sustained state and federal funding, providers are becoming more creative with how to close the revenue gap that results from delivering a high-quality program that is still affordable for working families.”

Our new brand will be rolled out over the next few weeks so please bear with us as we make the transition across all signage and media platforms. For now, we invite you to browse our new website and invite you to consider making a gift using our secure online platform to support our annual appeal.

“We are incredibly proud of the work we do,” Brian says, “delivering a high-quality program to180 children every day, many of whom are living in poverty, means the work we do is critical for the success of our community today and tomorrow. We hope you will join us in celebrating this new name and the direction it sets for all the work yet to come.”
